castle resort competition

05  /   05 /   2017

This project was designed with architect Gabriela Ledesma and participated in the Castle Resort Competition.  The design challenge was to revive an old abandoned castle in Italy using adaptive reuse strategy. The design considers the division of the resort functions into two main parts: a social and recreational area located inside the castle, and the accommodation area in the woodland surrounding the castle. These decisions were made on the requirements of each function as the social area can be adapted to the existing internal partitions of the castle, while the accommodation requires a modular design. By doing this separation of functions, the castle becomes a vital part of the project and restores its former use as a center of the region. The conceptual design seeks to work on both the symbolism and conservation of the castle remains as on sustainable strategies. The two approaches combined grant the project its background and essence.
