LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE STUDIO 

This studio course satisfies the 3 credit hour AUK Specialization requirement and meets specific requirements for programs as outlined in the AUK Undergraduate Catalog. The student is introduced to the elements and principles of landscape design, along with the development of a landscape plan for a residential area. The course will illustrate traditional design processes, concepts and different approaches of landscape design. The course will explore how site, climate, environment, culture, legislation and technical aspects affect the design process. Topography, grading and surveying techniques, and plant identification and characteristics will be considered, along with hardscape, soft-scape, vegetal landscaping and vertical farming. This course consists of lectures and problem-solving studio exercises to understand the art and science of landscape designing, arranging and creating spaces, objects (monuments, fountains, channels and other attractive structures) to compliment the built environment. The student is introduced to landscape designing through lectures, studio projects, including all requirements (presentations, diagrams, graphic and research) that are needed in a challenging urban context.
